Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheels.
2. Remove caliper as outlined under "Caliper Service".
3. Remove drive axle nut, then disconnect tie rod and ball joint using separator tool No. 09568-31000, or equivalent.

4. Separate drive axle from hub using pusher tool No. 09526-11001, or equivalent, Fig. 2.
5. Remove hub and knuckle from strut as an assembly.

6. Place knuckle in a vise, then use puller tool Nos. 09517-21600 and 09517-21500, or equivalents, Fig. 3, to remove hub from knuckle. Do not use a hammer to remove hub. Bearing damage will result.
7. Remove bolts, then separate rotor from hub.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque rotor to hub bolts to 37-44 ft. lbs.

b. Use puller tool No. 09517-21500, or equivalent, to install hub into knuckle, Fig. 4. Torque tool to 167 ft. lbs.
c. With tool No. 09517-21500, or equivalent, installed and tightened to specification, turning torque of rotor should not exceed 11 inch lbs. Axial play should not exceed 0.0043 inch.
d. Torque drive axle nut to 148-192 ft. lbs.
e. Torque hub to knuckle bolts to 66-77 ft. lbs.
