Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

1. Apply parking brake and place transmission shift lever in neutral.
2. Visually inspect converter for cracks or damage.
3. Adjust engine idle speed to specifications.
4. Race engine at 1500-2000 rpm--two or three times--under no load.
5. If idle speed increases, readjust to specifications using throttle screw.
6. Warm up engine for approximately 4 minutes at 2000 RPM under no load.
7. Wait 1 minute, then measure CO percentage at idle.
8. If CO percentage exceeds 0.3%, check mixture ratio feedback system and repair as necessary.
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7. If CO percentage still exceeds 0.3%, replace catalytic converter.
