Primary Circuit Test

Fig. 6 Primary circuit test connections with internal IC unit.:

1. With ignition switch in off position, remove distributor cap and rotor.
2. Connect voltmeter between "I" connector and ground as shown in Fig. 6.
3. Turn ignition switch to on position. Meter should read 11.5-12.5 volts.
4. If reading is within specification, repeat procedure with "E" connector, Fig' 6.
5. If either reading is less than 11.5 volts, test ignition coil primary windings, as previously outlined. Resistance should measure .84-1.02 ohms on Stanza and 1984-86 200SX models, or 1.04-1.27 ohms on all other models.
6. If voltage readings are within specifications, test IC unit ground circuit.
