A 1982 through 1986 THM 700-R4 transmission may exhibit a shudder condition that is most noticeable with a medium to heavy throttle apply after reverse gear has been selected. Starting on July 9, 1985, or Julian Date 190 through October 2, 1985, or Julian Date 275 (refer to Figure 1), all 1986 THM 700-R4 transmission models were built using a new spacer plate to correct this reverse shudder condition.
Install this new spacer plate on any 1982 through 1985 or before breakpoint 1986 THM 700-R4 transmission that exhibits the reverse shudder condition.
The chart in Figure 2 indicates new spacer plate part numbers, code identifications, 1986 production Julian Dates and 1982 through 1986 transmission model applications for the new spacer plates.
Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for the location of spacer plate identifying letter codes and proper removal and installation procedures.
