Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Distributor - Tang Drive Roll Pin Removal

Number 87-6 (Gasoline)-24 Date 3/87
Subject: REMOVING ROLL PIN FROM SHAFT ON TANG DRIVE IGNITION

1982-87 SUNBIRD AND 1987 GRAND AM MODELS WITH 1.8L AND 2.0L ENGINES
To avoid damage when driving out the roll pin, support the body of the tang drive in a "V" block. A tall or steep "V" block will provide underneath clearance for the roll pin to be driven out. Carefully file off any burrs around the shaft hole before removing the shaft to avoid damage to the bushing.

NOTICE: If only the two tangs on the tang drive are supported when driving the roll pin from the shaft, the two tangs may be broken off the drive. Also, support the body of the tang drive (not the two tangs) when driving in the roll pin.
