Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove engine compartment lid and side cover panels. Do not remove torsion rod retaining bolts.
3. Remove intake flex duct.
4. Disconnect throttle and shift cable.
5. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
6. Disconnect vacuum hoses to components not engine mounted.
7. Disconnect fuel lines from engine and remove fuel pump relay.
8. On automatic transaxle models, disconnect transaxle cooler lines.
9. On manual transaxle models, remove slave cylinder and shield from transaxle.
10. Disconnect ground strap from engine.
11. Remove radiator hoses.
12. Disconnect engine harness at junction block.
13. Remove rear heat shield.
14. If equipped, discharge air conditioning system. Disconnect A/C lines and wiring from compressor. Plug A/C lines.
15. Remove rear console.
16. Disconnect ECM harness through bulkhead panel.
17. Remove engine strut front bolt.
18. Install engine support fixture and bracket.
19. Raise and support vehicle.
20. Remove rear wheels.
21. Remove brake calipers and position aside. Do not disconnect brake hoses.
22. Remove two strut bolts on each side. Scribe alignment marks on bolts to retain camber setting.
23. Loosen four cradle bolts.
24. Lower vehicle.
25. Support engine and transaxle assembly on a suitable dolly.
26. Remove four cradle bolts.
27. Raise vehicle, leaving engine and transaxle assembly on dolly.
28. Reverse procedure to install. Torque rear cradle bolts to 76 ft. lbs. and front cradle bolts to 66 ft. lbs.
