Starter Motor: Service and Repair


Manual Transaxle
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Place a suitable drain pan under vehicle and remove oil filter.
5. Disconnect electrical connections from oil pressure sensor.
6. Disconnect the crank sensor wire from ignition module.
7. Remove oil cooler adapter stud and set oil cooler aside.
8. Disconnect starter electrical connections.
9. Remove starter mounting bolts and starter.
10. Reverse procedure to install, Torquing starter bolts to 32 ft. lbs.

Automatic Transaxle
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Place a suitable drain pan under vehicle and remove oil filter.
5. Disconnect electrical connections from oil pressure sensor.
6. Disconnect the crank sensor wire from ignition module.
7. Remove oil cooler adapter stud and set oil cooler aside.
8. Remove wiring harness from bellhousing clamp and lower radiator tie bar.
9. Disconnect power steering oil cooler lines from front crossmember.
10. Remove flywheel inspection cover.
11. Disconnect electrical connections from starter. Disconnect and move electrical connections on cooling fan if necessary to gain access.
12. Remove starter mounting bolts and starter assembly from vehicle.
13. Reverse procedure to install, Torquing starter mounting bolts to 32 ft. lbs.
