Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Fig. 9 Engine Front Cover Replacement:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove serpentine drive belt.
4. Remove generator brackets.
5. Remove power steering pump.
6. Remove belt tensioner.
7. Remove coolant bypass adapter.
8. Disconnect coolant hose from water pump.
9. Remove water pump pulley.
10. Remove crankshaft balancer.
11. Remove crankshaft position sensor.
12. Remove front cover bolts, Fig. 9.
13. Remove front cover and gasket.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean mating surface of front cover and cylinder block.
b. Apply sealer, part No. 1052080, or equivalent, to both sides of lower edges of front cover gasket where gasket contacts oil pan gasket.
c. Install new gasket.
d. Tighten to specifications.
