Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Tools Required
^ J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter
^ J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
^ J 38197 Balancer Remover




1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Remove the serpentine belts from the crankshaft pulley.

CAUTION: Refer to Hoist Caution in Service Precautions.

3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
4. Remove the right front wheel.
5. Remove the splash shield from the right inner fender.
6. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
7. Hold the flywheel with the J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.




8. Using 28 mm (1 1/8 in) socket, remove the retaining bolt from the crankshaft harmonic balancer.
9. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer using the J 38197 Balancer Remover.




10. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the sensor.




11. Remove the crankshaft position sensor shield.
DO NOT use a pry bar.




12. Remove the 2 attaching bolts from the crankshaft position sensor (3).

Crankshaft Position Sensor:




13. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor from the engine block.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Crankshaft Position Sensor:




1. Position the CKP sensor to the block.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the bolts that retain the CKP sensor to the block face.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).




3. Install the CKP sensor shield.




4. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the CKP sensor.
5. Position the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft.
6. Hold the flywheel with the J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.

Tighten
Tighten the harmonic balancer bolt to 150 N.m +76 degrees (110 lb ft +76 degrees).

7. Install the splash shield to the right inner fender.
8. Install the right front wheel.

Tighten
Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N.m (104 lb ft).




9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Install the serpentine belts from the crankshaft pulley.
11. Perform the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. Programming and Relearning
