Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Notice: When the column is removed from the vehicle, actions such as a sharp blow on the end of the steering shaft or shift lever, leaning on the column assembly, or dropping the assembly could shear or loosen the plastic fasteners that maintain column rigidity.

1. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.





2. Remove the steering shaft seal (1) from the sensor retainer (2).
3. Remove the sensor retainer (2) from the end of the steering shaft assembly (3).





4. Remove the following items from the steering shaft assembly:
- The lower spring retainer (1)
- The steering wheel speed sensor (2)

Installation Procedure





1. Compress the lower bearing spring (3) to a length of 23-24 mm between the lower bearing seat (4), the steering wheel speed sensor (2) and the lower spring retainer (1).





2. Install the steering shaft seal (1) to the sensor retainer (2).
3. Install the sensor retainer (2) to the steering shaft assembly (3).
4. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
5. Perform A Diagnostic System Check - ABS in Brakes and Traction Control.
