Rear Lift Gate Will Not Come Off Secondary Latch Position
(Install Rubber Bumper)

Models:
2001 Pontiac Aztek

Condition

Some customers may comment that the rear lift gate will not come off the secondary latch position when opened automatically.

Cause

The striker or latch may be mis-positioned or an over slam bumper may be missing.

Correction





1. Inspect the rear lift gate for the pressence of an over slam bumper. If missing, install a new bumper into the bracket approximately two turns (see figure).

2. Inspect the striker-to-latch alignment.

^ The latch has fore and aft adjustment and side to side.

^ The striker has side to side adjustment.

3. If the condition still exists after completing the above steps, inspect for possible weak struts.
