Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair

RECEIVER DEHYDRATOR REPLACEMENT

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the condenser.
3. Remove the receiver dehydrator upper bracket bolts.
4. Remove the receiver dehydrator lower mounting bolts.
5. Remove the receiver dehydrator.
6. Remove and discard the sealing washers.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. If replacing the receiver dehydrator, add the specified amount of PAG oil directly to the receiver dehydrator. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.
2. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surfaces of the A/C line and fittings on the condenser.

IMPORTANT: Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.

3. Install new sealing washers to the receiver dehydrator.
4. Connect the receiver dehydrator to the condenser.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the receiver dehydrator lower mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

6. Install the receiver dehydrator upper bracket bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

7. Install the condenser.
8. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
9. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
