Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 36850 Transmission Assembly Lubricant

Removal Procedure

1. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Vehicle Speed Sensor:

2. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
3. Remove the 1 retaining bolt (1) and the VSS (2) from the transaxle.
4. Inspect the VSS O-ring for cuts or damage. Replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure
1. Apply J 36850 to the VSS O-ring.

2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) into the transaxle case. Secure the VSS (2) with the retaining bolt (1).
^ Tighten the VSS speed sensor (VSS) bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).

3. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
4. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
