Oil Pump: Service and Repair




Oil Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine covers. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the spark plugs in order to ease crankshaft/engine rotation. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).

Important: DO NOT remove the left bank idler sprocket.


4. Remove the primary timing chain. Refer to Primary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Removal (Overhaul).
5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket. Refer to Crankshaft Sprocket Removal (Overhaul).
6. Remove the oil pump bolts and the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Removal (Overhaul).
7. Perform the following steps as necessary:

* Disassemble the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Disassemble (Overhaul).
* Clean and inspect the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Disassemble (Overhaul).

Installation Procedure

1. Assemble the oil pump as necessary. Refer to Oil Pump Assemble (Overhaul).
2. Install the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Installation (Overhaul).
3. Install the crankshaft sprocket. Refer to Crankshaft Sprocket Installation (Overhaul).
4. Install the primary timing chain. Refer to Primary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Installation (Overhaul).
5. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the engine covers. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
