Starter Motor: Service and Repair




Starter Replacement (1.8L)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).

1. Disconnect the cable from negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.




3. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector (4) from the starter assembly.
4. Remove the nut (1) and disconnect the wire harness from terminal 30.
5. Remove the 2 bolts (2, 3) and starter assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the starter assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the starter assembly with the 2 bolts (2, 3).

Tighten the bolts to 37 Nm (27 lb ft).

3. Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut (1). Then, attach the terminal cap.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 Nm (87 lb in).

4. Connect the terminal 50 connector (4) to the starter assembly.
5. Install the transmission oil filler tube subassembly.
6. Connect the cable to negative battery terminal.
