Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen locknut and remove shift knob, and remove shift indicator plate and top cover after disconnecting indicator lamp.
3. Pull carpet back from shifter cover assembly.
4. Remove rear ashtray and 5 screws securing center rear console, disconnect wiring harness connectors, and remove console.
5. Disconnect wiring harness connectors to switch assembly, remove screws securing switch to shifter assembly, and remove switch.
6. Place transmission selector in neutral and install switch with screws finger tight.
7. Rotate switch until line on switch is aligned with lever, and secure switch.
8. Reconnect wiring harness connectors and reverse procedure to install remaining components.
