Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Steering Angle

Before checking the steering angle of the wheels, the toe-in must be correctly adjusted.
Measurement of the steering angle is carried out using two standard, graduated turntables combined with optical measuring equipment (pictured). Each turntable should be centered as accurately as possible underneath the respective wheel.

Example: Turn the steering wheel to the left until the righthand (outer) wheel is at an angle of 20°. If the steering angle is correct, the other (inner) wheel should be at an angle of 20.5 - 21.5°. If the measurement shows the steering angle to be incorrect, one or both of the steering members is distorted.
Defective steering swivel members must be replaced.
