Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Brake Fluid: Service and Repair

Changing the Brake Fluid

1. Drain the brake fluid reservoir
2. Fill up with fresh brake fluid.

3. Connect the filler cap (included in the brake bleeder kit 88 19 096) to the brake fluid reservoir. Place a hose with one end in the filler cap and the other in a container of fresh brake fluid.

4. Raise the car and connect the suction pump hose to the bleed nipple on the LH front wheel.
Suction out the brake fluid until new fluid starts to appear. Repeat this method on the remaining wheels in the following order: RH front, LH rear, RH rear and the slave cylinder.
5. Lower the car to the floor.
6. Remove the filler funnel, hose and bottle.
7. Adjust the amount of brake fluid in the reservoir.
8. Check the function of the brakes. Depress the brake pedal and make sure it does not creep.
