Exhaust Temperature Sensor: Service and Repair



Temperature sensor, three-way catalytic converter warning





To Remove

1 Remove the grommet for the temperature sensor connector.
2 Withdraw the connector through the opening and remove it.
3 Open the clip securing the lead.





4 Remove the temperature sensor and let it hang.
5 Cut the cable tie securing the lead to the power steering hoses.
6 Carefully withdraw the temperature sensor and lead.





To Fit

NOTE: Coat the temperature sensor threads and cone sparingly with Molykote 1000, part no. 30 20 271.
Smear the grommet with non-acidic vaseline for easier fitting.
Spray the area round the grommet and the grommet itself with Tectyl ML, part no.30 21 763. Spray the connector with Kontakt 61, part no. 30 04 520.

Fit in reverse order.

Important
Hold the temperature sensor when screwing in place to prevent it from twisting and becoming damaged.
Attach the cable so that it does not chafe or come into contact with hot objects.
