Service Procedure:

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE PARK LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Set parking brake.

2. With ignition key removed from ignition lock cylinder and automatic transaxle control shift lever in the "P" (Park) position, fully depress automatic transaxle control shift lever button and, with a normal shifting effort, attempt to move automatic transaxle control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position.

a. If automatic transaxle control shift lever can be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, refer to "Automatic Transaxle Park Lock Cable Assembly Adjustment" procedure in this bulletin.





b. If the automatic transaxle control shift lever cannot be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, affix Campaign Completion Label to radiator core support.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE PARK LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY ADJUSTMENT

1. Check routing of automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly:





a. Push down on accelerator pedal and verify that automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly is properly routed in the accelerator pedal bracket retainer clip as shown in above illustration.

^ If automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly is not in the retainer clip, insert the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly into retainer clip as shown in above illustration.





b. Check routing of automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly under HVAC module assembly as shown in the illustration. Make sure the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly is routed on the inside of the HVAC module fin. If the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly is not correctly routed, route as shown in illustration.

2. Put automatic transaxle control shift lever in "P" (Park) position and turn ignition key to the LOCK position.

3. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder assembly.





4. Remove front cup holder/ash tray assembly to gain access to automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly.





5. Using a small screwdriver, pick or awl, lift lock tab on automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly.

IMPORTANT:
The automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly is located on the right side of the automatic transaxle base assembly.

6. Quickly depress and release the automatic transaxle control shift lever button three times to move cable to initial position.





7. With automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly in initial position, mark the slider next to the lock body with a sharp pencil as shown.





8. Using mark on the slider as a reference point, push automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly toward automatic transaxle control base assembly (shifter base), moving slider 1.25 mm (0.049 in.).

IMPORTANT:
A feeler gage can be used to obtain the 1.25 mm (0.049 in.) gap.

9. When correct gap is obtained, depress lock tab on the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly.

IMPORTANT:
When lock tab is set, the slider position may change slightly.

10. Insert ignition key into ignition lock/cylinder assembly. Turn ignition key to the RUN position, then back to the LOCK position.

^ If ignition key can be turned back to the LOCK position, proceed to step 12 of this procedure.

^ If ignition key cannot be turned back to the LOCK position, proceed to step 11 of this procedure.

11. Lift up lock tab on automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly. Push automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly towards automatic transaxle control base assembly (shifter base) until ignition key can be turned to the LOCK position. Repeat steps 5 through 10 of this procedure to readjust the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly.

12. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder, and with automatic transaxle control shift lever in the "P" (Park) position, fully depress automatic transaxle control shift lever button and, with a normal shifting effort, attempt to move automatic transaxle control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position.

a. If automatic transaxle control shift lever can be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, repeat steps 5 through 10 of this procedure to readjust the automatic transaxle park lock cable assembly.





b. If the automatic transaxle control shift lever cannot be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, install front cup holder/ash tray assembly into console and affix Campaign Completion Label to radiator core support.
