Antilock Telltale Lamp

As a bulb and system check, the lamp will come On with the key On and the lamp will turn Off after about three seconds. If the lamp remains On, or begins to flash, the self-diagnostic system has detected a problem. The lamp will remain on until the ignition is cycled Off. When the ignition is cycled back On the ABS runs the self diagnostic test to see if the problem is still present. If the problem remains the light will stay On.

The telltale lamp in the instrument cluster has the following functions:
^ If the lamp comes On solid, it informs the driver that a problem has occurred and that the ABS system has been disabled. The vehicle should be taken for service as soon as possible.
^ There is only one case where the ABS telltale will flash. If a code 87 is set, and subsequently during the same ignition cycle, a fault occurs such that the rear motor is not at home, the ABS telltale will flash. On subsequent ignition cycles, the ABS telltale will be On solid. When the rear motor is not at home, the car does not have rear brakes. Consequently, the controller tries to turn On the red brake warning lamp, but if the telltale circuit is open or shorted to B+, the telltale cannot be turned On.
