Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Front Exhaust Pipe and Front Catalytic Converter

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect connector from oxygen sensor.




2. Lift up the vehicle.
3. Separate front catalytic converter from rear exhaust pipe.




4. Remove bolts which hold front exhaust pipe onto cylinder heads.




5. Remove front exhaust pipe with front catalytic converter from hanger bracket.

CAUTION: Be careful not to pull down front exhaust pipe and front catalytic converter.




6. Separate front exhaust pipe from front catalytic converter.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Replace gaskets with new ones.




1. Install front catalytic converter to front exhaust pipe.

Tightening torque:
25 - 35 N.m (2.6 - 3.6 kg.m, 18 - 26 ft.lb)




2. Install front exhaust pipe with front catalytic converter. And temporarily tighten bolt which installs front exhaust pipe to hanger bracket.




3. Tighten bolts which hold front exhaust pipe onto cylinder heads.

Tightening torque:
25 - 35 N.m (2.6 - 3.6 kg.m, 18 - 26 ft.lb)




4. Install front catalytic converter to rear exhaust pipe.

Tightening torque:
30 - 40 N.m (3.1 - 4.1 kg.m, 22 - 30 ft.lb)




5. lighten bolt which holds front exhaust pipe to hanger bracket.

Tightening torque: 10 - 16 N.m (1.0 - 1.6 kg.m, 7 - 12 ft.lb)
