Pull-In/No Load Test

Pull-In Test
1. Connect terminal S Fig. 6, of solenoid assembly to positive terminal of battery.
2. Connect starter frame to ground terminal of battery.
3. Pinion should extend.
4. Disconnect starter motor connector from terminal M.
5. Connect positive terminal of battery, then ground starter frame.
6. Pinion should return.
7. If pinion does not operate as specified, repair or replace starter as necessary.

No Load Test
CAUTION: When running this test, do not exceed 30 seconds or damage to the starter motor will result.
1. Connect starter motor as shown in Fig. 7.
2. Turn switch to On position, then adjust variable resistance to 11 volts.
3. Measure and record ammeter reading and measure the starter speed. Ammeter reading 90A maximum. Rotation speed for manual transmission should be 3,000 rpm minimum, automatic transmission should be 2,900 rpm minimum.
4. If reading are not as specified, repair or replace starter motor as necessary.
