Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

1. Remove steering wheel as outlined under Steering Wheel.
2. Remove combination switch as outlined under Lighting and Horns / Service and Repair.
3. Remove steering column from vehicle as follows:
a. Disconnect all electrical connectors from steering column.
b. Remove steering shaft joint cover.
c. Disconnect steering joint by removing joint bolt.
d. Remove steering column mounting bolts.
e. On models with automatic transmission, remove back drive cable from column assembly.
f. Remove steering column from vehicle.
4. Using center punch, remove steering lock/switch mounting bolts. Use care not to damage aluminum part of steering lock/switch body.
5. Turn ignition key to ACC or ON position, then remove lock/switch assembly from steering column.
6. Install ignition lock/switch to steering column as follows:

a. Position oblong hole of steering shaft in center of hole in column, Fig. 1.
b. Turn ignition key to ACC or ON position, then install lock/switch assembly onto column.
c. Turn ignition key to LOCK position, then remove key.
d. Align hub on lock/switch with oblong hole of steering shaft. Ensure steering shaft is locked.
e. Tighten bolts until heads of bolts twist off.
f. Using ignition key, ensure smooth operation of steering shaft.
7. Reverse steps 1 through 3 to complete assembly.
