Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Mass Air Flow (MAF) & Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Inspection

Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Inspection

Reference: Mass Air Flow (MAF) and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Do not heat up the MAF and IAT sensor more than 100 degrees C (212 degrees F). Otherwise, the MAF and IAT sensor is damaged.

- Check sensor O-ring (1) for damage and deterioration. Replace as necessary.
- Blow hot air to temperature sensing part (2) of MAF and IAT sensor (3) using hot air drier (4) and measure resistance between sensor terminals while heating air gradually. If measured resistance does not show such characteristic as shown in figure, replace MAF and IAT sensor.

Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor resistance
1.80 - 2.20 kOhms at 25 degrees C, 77 degrees F
0.50 - 0.68 kOhms at 60 degrees C, 140 degrees F
