DOUBLE LOCKING TYPE CONNECTOR SERVICE PROCEDURE

SERVICE HINT

To reduce the possibility of unwanted connector separation, 2 more types of connectors have been changed to the double locking type.

Production Effective :

Random introduction of the new type connector into production will take place between August 1990 and February 1991.

Service Procedures :

1. Separating Connector:
To pull the connector apart, pull on the connector itself, not the wiring harness.

HINT: Be sure the type of connector lock is determined before pulling apart (see diagrams).

2. Special Tool Preparation:

To remove the terminal from the connector, construct and use a special tool similar to that shown in the diagram.

3. Disengaging the Terminal Retainer :
A locking device must be disengaged before the terminal retainer can be pulled out of the connector. (Refer to the following applicable diagrams).

HINT: The terminal retainer and the connector body are always different in colour.

Examples :

a) Male Terminal Non-Waterproof Type :

b) Female Terminal Non-Waterproof Type :

Pry the terminal retainer out to its temporary lock position.

HINT:
The tool insertion position varies according to the connector's shape, so be sure to check for the insertion position mark.

c) Male Terminal Waterproof Type :
Insert the tool through the access hole in the connector body. Push and hold the locking clip and push the terminal retainer out to the temporary lock position.

d) Female Terminal Waterproof Type :
Insert the tool into the terminal retainer and push and hold the locking clip. Pull out the terminal retainer to its temporary lock position.

4. Disconnect Terminal From Terminal Retainer :
Insert the tool to release the locking clip from the terminal and pull the terminal out from the rear of the connector.

5. Installation of Terminal into Connector.

6. Reconnect the Connector.
