Hall Effect Sensor: Description and Operation

Hall Sender:

PURPOSE
The Hall Sender signal is used to identify #1 cylinder for sequential injection.

LOCATION
Mounted in the ignition distributor (left side of cylinder head).

CONSTRUCTION
The Hall Sender consists of a magnetic enclosure and integrated semiconductor circuit (the Hall IC). The IC is enclosed in plastic for protection.

The shutter wheel has a single window to indicate TDC.

OPERATION
A voltage signal is generated when the shutter wheel interrupts the magnetic field of the IC. Since the shutter turns at camshaft speed, one signal is generated for every two crankshaft revolutions.
