Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection

CHECKING INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

NOTE: This procedure NOT applicable to US vehicles!

Functional Check
- Check with Scan Tool (ST) VAG 1551 in Function 08, "Read measuring value block", check with ignition switched ON.

Special Tools
- VAG 1551 Scan Tool using adaptor cable VAG 1551/1.
- Freeze spray (commercially available).

Test Conditions
- VAG 1551 Scan Tool connected and Function 08 "Read measuring value block" selected (Display group number 02).




Test Sequence
- Remove Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (harness connector remains connected).
- Read Intake Air Temperature in display channel 4.

^ Specification: approx. ambient temperature

- Spray sensor with commercially available freeze spray.
- Temperature value must decrease uniformly without interruption.

NOTE: Interruption will be shown as: - 40°C.

- Press --> button.
- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06: "End data output".
- Press Q button to enter input.
- If temperature value does not change:

- Perform electrical check. Refer to Diagnostic Charts / VAG 1598 Pin Out Box / Electrical Checks / Test Step 14. Testing and Inspection
