Broken Timing Belt Replacement Service Steps

NOTE: Check for associated Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's) prior to starting the job.

1. Verify timing belt is broken, check for possible valve damage. Testing and Inspection

2. Disconnect the battery, remove the front tire, place a fender cover over the radiator (Initial Preparations). Fundamentals and Basics

3. Position crankshaft pulley to #1 TDC compression. Fundamentals and Basics

4. Remove timing belt. Service and Repair

5. Inspect cam/crank seals, and tensioner pulley. (Pre-Installation Inspection). Testing and Inspection

6. Install timing belt. Service and Repair

7. Reconnect battery.

8. Start engine, check the following:
- Ignition timing.
- Engine vacuum. Fundamentals and Basics
- Abnormal noises/vibrations from timing belt cover. Testing and Inspection

9. Test drive vehicle. Testing and Inspection
