Oil, quality check

Check the oil

Note! Only ATF oil that fulfills Dexron II E/III and Ford Mercon standards may be used.

Check the oil by taking a sample with the dipstick.
Discolored or burnt smell?
- Check whether the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system has recorded diagnostic trouble code (AT-235)
- If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235 is stored, smell the oil
- Also fault-trace the transmission according to diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT-235
- Change oil, see Oil, changing, AW50-42 Changing Oil.
Is there water in the oil (gray discoloration)?
- Determine the cause of water in the oil
- Replace transmission according to Replacing the transmission, AW50-42 Replacing Transmission
- Flush oil cooler, pipes and oil hoses according to Replacing the transmission, AW50-42 Replacing Transmission.
