Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

1. Inspect ignition coil for damage and ensure coil connections are clean and tight. Check spring plug at coil mount is seated on output transistor.
2. Using a suitable digital ohmmeter check ignition coil resistance as follows:
a. Check primary resistance by probing coil positive terminal with negative lead of ohmmeter and coil negative terminal with positive lead of ohmmeter. Resistance should be .6-1 ohm.
b. Check secondary winding resistance by probing coil negative terminal with positive lead of ohmmeter and coil high tension lead with negative lead of ohmmeter. Resistance should be 6400-11000 ohms.
c. Replace coil if damaged or resistance is not as specified.
