Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable and remove spare tire.
2. Disconnect speedometer cable at transaxle housing by unscrewing ring nut.
3. Disconnect clutch cable from release lever and unhook return spring.
4. Install suitable engine supporting device.
5. Remove bellhousing bolt and nut that is accessible from above.
6. Remove hubcaps from front wheels and unscrew constant velocity joint hub nuts.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove left front wheel, then using suitable tool, disconnect left tie rod from steering arm.
9. Remove sway bar.
10. Remove control arm to body attaching bolt.
11. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connectors.
12. Disconnect exhaust pipe bracket.
13. Disconnect gearshift linkage.
14. Remove starter and the flywheel cover.
15. Remove lower support crossmember.
16. Remove bellhousing bolt not previously removed.
17. Disconnect ground cable at transaxle.
18. Tie axle shafts and CV joints to transaxle.
19. Carefully lower transaxle assembly from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
