Headliner Replacement (w/CF5)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the front bucket seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Bucket (Seat Replacement - Bucket) in Seats.
2. Remove the center console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS without UV8) (Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS Without RPO UV8))Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS with UV8) (Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS With RPO UV8)) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
3. Remove center seat, if equipped. Refer to Seat Replacement - Center (w/o UV8) (Seat Replacement - Center (Without RPO Code UV8))Seat Replacement - Center (UV8) (Seat Replacement - Center (With RPO Code UV8)) in Seats.
4. Remove the windshield pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
5. Remove the center pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8)) .
6. Remove the sail panels. Refer toSail Panel Replacement (Standard) (Sail Panel Replacement (Standard))Sail Panel Replacement (WC2, WC8) (Sail Panel Replacement (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
Notice: If the vehicle is equipped with rear vanity mirrors, the rear vanity mirrors must be removed before the removal of the headliner or damage to the roof may result.
7. Remove the rear vanity mirrors, if equipped. Refer to Vanity Mirror Replacement - Rear. Vanity Mirror Replacement - Rear
8. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
9. Disconnect the electrical connector to the windshield outside moisture sensor.
10. Disconnect the rearview mirror electrical connectors.
11. Pull the door opening moldings down to clear the headliner.
12. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair) .
13. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connector.
14. Open the wire harness retainers and remove the harness.
Notice: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.
15. Release the push-in retainers at the rear of the headliner, if equipped.
16. Carefully pull the headliner down in order to release the remaining headliner locators from the roof panel.
17. Remove the headliner through the rear drivers door opening.
Installation Procedure
Important: If the headliner locators separate from the headliner during removal, obtain a locator repair kit from GM SPO.
1. Load the headliner into the vehicle through the rear drivers door opening.
2. With the aid of a helper, raise the headliner into position.
3. Install the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
5. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
6. Install the center pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8)) .
7. Connect the headliner wiring harness connector.
8. Route and secure the wiring harness in the wiring harness retainers.
9. Install the sail panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (Standard) (Sail Panel Replacement (Standard))Sail Panel Replacement (WC2, WC8) (Sail Panel Replacement (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
10. Install the rear vanity mirrors, if equipped. Refer to Vanity Mirror Replacement - Rear. Vanity Mirror Replacement - Rear
Important: Ensure that the inside lip of the door opening weather-strip is properly seated to close out the headliner, sail panel and pillar garnish moldings.
11. Install the weather-strips in the door openings.
12. Connect the rear view mirror electrical connectors.
13. Connect the electrical connector at the windshield outside moisture sensor.
14. Install the center console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS without UV8) (Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS Without RPO UV8))Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS with UV8) (Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS With RPO UV8)) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
15. Install the center seat, if equipped. Refer to Seat Replacement - Center (w/o UV8) (Seat Replacement - Center (Without RPO Code UV8))Seat Replacement - Center (UV8) (Seat Replacement - Center (With RPO Code UV8)) in Seats.
16. Install the front bucket seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Bucket (Seat Replacement - Bucket) in Seats.
