EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

1. Run engine until it reaches operating temperature.
2. Check vacuum pipes and hose for leaks.
3. Run engine at idle and check for leaks in pipe between EGR valve and exhaust manifold.
4. Disconnect vacuum hose to the EGR valve.
5. Connect a hand operated vacuum pump and apply vacuum to the valve.
6. If valve holds vacuum but idle speed does not change, check EGR line for dirt, blockage or damage. Clean EGR port if possible.
7. If EGR line is satisfactory, or if valve does not hold vacuum, replace EGR valve.
