Rear Defogger: Testing and Inspection

Rear Window Defogger, Assembly:






NOTE: Rear window defogger blower motor is installed behind left-rear side trim.


1 - Nut with captive washer
- 7 Nm (62 in. lb)
2 - Mounting bracket
3 - Rubber bushing
4 - Air duct
5 - Clamp
6 - Blower motor

Removing:
- Remove left-rear side trim.
- Loosen clamp -5 and remove air duct from blower motor.
- Remove nuts -1 from blower motor
- Pull blower motor forward and out and remove wire connector.
7 - Rear window defogger and heated mirror switch
- Located in center console
8 - Harness connector
9 - Switch bracket
10 - Air duct connection with rubber grommet


Checking rear window defogger blower motor
- Remove left-rear side trim.
- Set multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to voltage measuring range.
- Connect multimeter between blower motor connector terminals at rear of connector (arrow).





- Switch ignition and rear window defogger on.

Specification: Approx. battery voltage.

If voltage is as specified, and the blower motor does not run:
- Replace blower motor.

If voltage is not as specified:
- Repair open circuit in wiring according to wiring diagram.
