Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Radiator: Service and Repair

RADIATOR REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove radiator overflow hose and reserve tank.
2. Place a suitable container below radiator drain plug, then remove plug and allow coolant to drain from radiator.
3. Remove coolant drain hose and upper and lower radiator hoses, then disconnect radiator fan motor connector.
4. On models with automatic transaxle, disconnect transaxle oil cooler lines at radiator and plug ends to prevent entry of foreign matter.
5. On all models, remove upper insulators and lift radiator and fan motor from vehicle as an assembly.
6. If necessary, disconnect engine coolant temperature switch connector and remove fan motor assembly from radiator.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:

a. On models with automatic transaxle, connect transaxle oil cooler lines so that flexible hoses overlap 1 inch onto radiator fittings. Ensure hose clamps do not pinch fitting end bulges.
b. On all models, slide radiator upper and lower hoses over water outlet and inlet fittings as far as small protrusions on each fitting will allow.
c. Refill engine coolant when installation is complete.
