Removal and Installation

Transmission Crossmember









EGR Valve









All vehicles

1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.

2. Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.

Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission

3. Remove the shifter. For additional information, refer to Manual Transaxle/Transmission Service and Repair.

All vehicles

4. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Driveshaft Removal and Replacement.

5. Remove the exhaust downpipe. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Exhaust Downpipe.

6. NOTE: Manual transmission shown, automatic transmission similar.

Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.





7. Remove the 6 crossmember-to-frame bolts (3 on each side).
- To install, tighten to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft).

8. Detach the transmission electrical connector and wiring harness retainers from the crossmember. Remove the 2 transmission mount nuts and the crossmember.
- To install, tighten to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft).

9. Lower the transmission enough to allow access to the EGR valve.

10. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose.

11. Disconnect the EGR coolant hose.

12. Remove the 2 bolts and the EGR valve.
- Discard the gasket.

- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).

13. NOTE: Clean the gasket mating surfaces and install a new gasket.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
