Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

WARNING To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury when the fuel line is disconnected, cover the fuel line with a shop cloth to collect the fuel, and then place the cloth in an approved container.

REMOVAL
1. Relieve fuel pressure.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. Disconnect fuel lines from filter.
NOTE: Use a back-up wrench to prevent filter, O-ring, or fuel line damage.
4. Remove clamp bolt.
5. Remove filter and clamp from vehicle.
6. Remove clamp from filter.

INSTALLATION
1. Install clamp to filter.
2. Install filter, clamp and bolt in position loosely.
3. Using new O-rings, install fuel lines into filter.
NOTE Use a back-up wrench to prevent filter, O-ring, or fuel line damage.
4. Torque line fittings to 26 Nm (20 lb-ft).
5. Torque clamp bolt to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft).
6. Lower vehicle.
7. "START" engine and inspect for leaks.

NOTE Refer to FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT for fuel strainer removal.
