Inhibitor Switch (A/T)

Inhibitor Switch:

PURPOSE
Signals ECU as to transmission operating range and prevents starting except in "P" or "N" positions. ECU uses inhibitor switch input in its control calculations for fuel system, ignition system, turbocharger control system, air injection, and A/C.

LOCATION
Right side of transmission.

OPERATION
Switch moves in conjunction with shift lever in vehicle. Gear position is read according to varying continuity between switch contacts.
