Vehicle Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Vehicle Speed Sensor Testing:

1. Raise and safely support vehicle.
2. Unplug sensor electrical connector. Unscrew knurled collar and remove sensor.
3. Connect a battery and voltmeter as shown in image.
4. Turn sensor shaft and verify that meter oscillates between 0V and 12V 20 times per shaft revolution.
5. If not as specified, replace speed sensor.

Vehicle speed sensor input voltage can be checked at ECU terminal 1M. With ignition "ON" and vehicle not moving, voltage should be either 0V or approximately 5V, depending on position of sensor.
