Information CAN communication circuit inspection (Central GateWay)

Note

  • The installed devices vary depending on the vehicle. All the devices that may be connected to the CAN communication circuit are shown in the diagnostic procedure. Perform diagnosis only for the applicable device procedure.

1. Body control system check

Refer to "64.Body Control 10I.Troubleshooting(Central GateWay) diagnostic system check - central gateway controls".

2. Scan tool communication verification

Caution

  • If the IDSS is in use, check for a malfunction in the IDSS interface equipment. If the IDSS interface equipment LED does not illuminate, refer to Scan tool does not power up, and inspect the power supply.

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Check the vehicle specifications and verify the status of communication with the following control modules using a scan tool. Can communication with any of the control modules be established?

  • eCall unit
  • Audio center unit

Yes

eCall unit communication verification

No

=>Go to eCall unit inspection.

3. eCall unit communication verification

1) Verify that communication can be established with the eCall unit using the scan tool. Can communication with the eCall unit be established?

Yes

Audio center unit communication verification

No

Go to Lost communication with the eCall unit.

4. Audio center unit communication verification

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Check the communication status with the audio center unit using a scan tool. Can communication with the audio center unit be established?

Yes

The system is normal.

No

=>Go to Audio center unit power supply and ground circuit inspection.

5. Audio center unit power supply and ground circuit inspection

1) Inspect the power supply circuit and ground circuit of the audio center unit for the following. Is the result normal?

  • Open circuit or high resistance
  • Short to ground in the power supply circuit
  • Poor connections at the body ground
  • Poor connections at the audio center unit harness connector

Yes

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit and short circuit in Information CAN communication circuit.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

6. Inspection for open circuit and short circuit in Information CAN communication circuit

1) Inspect for an intermittent short together between the CAN Low and CAN High circuits, and an intermittent short to ground or intermittent short to the power supply circuit. Is the result normal?

2) Inspect for intermittent open circuits in the CAN Low circuit and CAN High circuit in the control unit with which communication cannot be established. Is the result normal?

3) Are all of the results normal?

Yes

=>Go to Repair verification.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

7. eCall unit inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the eCall unit harness connector (B85).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Verify that communication can be established with control units other than the eCall unit using the scan tool. Can communication with control units other than the eCall unit be established?

Yes

=>Go to eCall unit replacement.

No

=>Go to Audio center unit inspection.

8. Audio center unit inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the audio center unit harness connector (B49).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Verify that communication can be established with control units other than the audio center unit using the scan tool. Can communication with control units other than the audio center unit be established?

Yes

=>Go to Audio center unit replacement.

No

=>Go to Information CAN communication circuit resistance check.

9. Information CAN communication circuit resistance check

1) Disconnect the audio center unit harness connector (B49).

2) Measure the resistance at the CAN resister (pins 13 and 16 of B3) from the backside of the Fuse and Relay Box (Instrument Panel) harness connector with a DMM. Is the resistance within the specified range?

Note

  • The parallel resistance of the 120 Ω resistor in the central gateway control unit and the 120 Ω resistor of the CAN resistor is 60 Ω.

Value: 50 to 70 Ω

Yes

=>Go to Audio center unit replacement.

No

=>Go to CAN resistor inspection.

10. CAN resistor inspection

1) Disconnect the central gateway control unit harness connector (B41).

2) Measure the resistance at the CAN resister (pins 13 and 16 of B3) from the backside of the Fuse and Relay Box (Instrument Panel) harness connector with a DMM. Is the resistance within the specified range?

Value: 110 to 130 Ω

Yes

=>Go to Central gateway control unit replacement.

No

Replace the CAN resistor.

=>Go to Repair verification.

11. eCall unit replacement

  • Perform programming after replacing the eCall unit.

Yes

The system is normal.

No
