DTC P0713 (Flash Code 16) Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit High (AWR6B45)

1. Transmission control system check

Refer to "55.Transmission Control 5A.Troubleshooting(AWR6B45) diagnostic system check-transmission controls".

2. Current DTC check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds or more.

3) Start the engine and operate the vehicle.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is a DTC set?

Yes

=>Go to Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit voltage check.

No

Go to Intermittent conditions of automatic transmission.

Refer to "206.Transmission, Transaxle 19D.Symptom(AWR6B45) Intermittent conditions of automatic transmission".

3. Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit voltage check

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the transmission internal harness connector (E42).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Measure the voltage between the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit of the transmission internal harness (pin 3 of E42) and the body ground with a DMM.

Value: 4.5 to 5.5 V

The reading is less than the specified value.

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit.

The reading is within the specified range.

=>Go to Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 low reference circuit voltage check.

The reading is more than the specified value.

=>Go to Inspection for short to power supply in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit.

4. Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 low reference circuit voltage check

1) Measure the voltage between the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit and the low reference circuit of the transmission internal harness (pins 3 and 4 of E42) with a DMM. Is the voltage more than or equal to the specified value?

Value: 4.5 V

Yes

=>Go to Inspection of transmission internal harness connector.

No

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 low reference circuit.

5. Inspection for short to power supply in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit

1) Inspect the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit between the TCM (pin 23 of E5) and the transmission internal harness (pin 3 of E42) for a short to the power supply circuit. Is the result normal?

Yes

=>Go to TCM replacement.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

6. Inspection for open circuit in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit

1) Inspect the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit between the TCM (pin 23 of E5) and the transmission internal harness (pin 3 of E42) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?

Yes

=>Go to TCM harness connector inspection.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

7. Inspection for open circuit in transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 low reference circuit

1) Inspect the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 low reference circuit between the TCM (pin 24 of E5) and the transmission internal harness (pin 4 of E42) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?

Yes

=>Go to TCM harness connector inspection.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

8. Inspection of transmission internal harness connector

1) Inspect for poor connections at the transmission internal harness connector (pins 3 and 4 of E42). Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to Inspection of transmission internal harness.

No

Repair the connections as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

9. Inspection of transmission internal harness

1) Inspect the circuit between the transmission internal harness (pins 3 and 4 of E42) and transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?

Refer to "LHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

Replace the transmission internal harness.

Refer to "5.Transmission, Transaxle 5B.Automatic(AWR6B45) transmission disassembly".

=>Go to Repair verification.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

10. TCM harness connector inspection

1) Inspect for poor connections at the TCM harness connector (pins 23 and 24 of E5). Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Automatic Transmission" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to TCM replacement.

No

Repair the connections as necessary.

11. TCM replacement

Note

  • Perform programming after replacing the TCM.

1) Clear the DTC with a scan tool.

Note

  • The ECM sets DTC P0700 if the TCM sets emission related DTCs. Clear the ECM DTC after clearing the TCM DTC.

2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 30 seconds or more.

3) Start the engine and operate the vehicle.

4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.
