Hazard warning flasher switch system check (BCM)

1. Body control system check

Refer to "64.Body Control 10I.Troubleshooting(BCM) diagnostic system check-body controls".

2. Hazard warning flasher switch signal check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Operate the hazard warning flasher switch.

4) Observe the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter on the scan tool. Does the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter match the hazard warning flasher switch operation?

Yes

The system is normal.

No (Normally ON)

=>Go to Inspection for short circuit in hazard warning flasher switch.

No (Normally OFF)

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch.

3. Inspection for short circuit in hazard warning flasher switch

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the hazard warning flasher switch harness connector (B71).

Refer to "LHD Body Control" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 with DPD)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 without DPD, RZ4E)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter on the scan tool. Does the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter show OFF?

Yes

Replace the hazard warning flasher switch.

=>Go to Repair verification.

No

=>Go to Inspection for short circuit in hazard warning flasher switch signal circuit.

4. Inspection for short circuit in hazard warning flasher switch signal circuit

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the BCM harness connector (B19).

3) Make sure there is no continuity between the BCM harness connector (pin 22 of B19) and the body ground with a DMM. Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 with DPD)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 without DPD, RZ4E)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to BCM harness connector inspection.

No

Repair the short to ground in the signal circuit between the BCM (pin 22 of B19) and the hazard warning flasher switch (pin 4 of B71).

=>Go to Repair verification.

5. Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the hazard warning flasher switch harness connector (B71).

3) Connect a fused jumper wire between the signal circuit and the ground circuit of the hazard warning flasher switch harness connector (pins 3 and 4 of B71).

4) Turn ON the ignition switch.

5) Observe the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter on the scan tool. Does the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter show ON?

Yes

=>Go to Hazard warning flasher switch harness connector inspection.

No

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch ground circuit.

6. Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch ground circuit

1) Inspect for continuity between the hazard warning flasher switch ground circuit (pin 3 of B71) and the body ground with a DMM. Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 with DPD)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch signal circuit.

No

Repair the open circuit or high resistance in the ground circuit between the hazard warning flasher switch (pin 4 of B71) and the body ground.

=>Go to Repair verification.

7. Inspection for open circuit in hazard warning flasher switch signal circuit

1) Disconnect the BCM harness connector (B19).

2) Inspect the signal circuit between the BCM harness connector (pin 22 of B19) and the hazard warning flasher switch (pin 4 of B71) for an open circuit or high resistance. Is the result normal?

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 with DPD)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

=>Go to BCM harness connector inspection.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

8. Hazard warning flasher switch harness connector inspection

1) Inspect for poor connections at the hazard warning flasher switch harness connector (pins 3 and 4 of B71). Is the connection status normal?

Refer to "LHD Body Control" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 with DPD)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Refer to "RHD Body Control (4JJ3 without DPD, RZ4E)" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Yes

Replace the hazard warning flasher switch.

9. BCM harness connector inspection

1) Inspect for poor connections at the BCM harness connector (pin 22 of B19). Is the connection status normal?

Yes

=>Go to BCM replacement.

No

Repair the connections as necessary.

10. BCM replacement

Note

  • Perform programming after replacing the BCM.

11. Repair verification

1) Connect all of the disconnected harness connectors.

2) Connect the scan tool.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Operate the hazard warning flasher switch.

5) Observe the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter on the scan tool. Does the Hazard Switch (M06-22) parameter match the hazard warning flasher switch operation?

Yes

The system is normal.

No
