Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has any DTC other than P1142:00 been stored?
Yes
If DTC P2106:00 is stored
•  Repair the malfunctioning location according to the P2106 DTC troubleshooting.
If DTC P004A:00, P004B:00, or P16A6:00 is stored
•  Go to the next step.
If DTC other than P2106:00, P004A:00, P004B:00, and P16A6:00 is stored
•  Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY AVERAGE DISTANCE INTERVAL OF diesel particulate filter REGENERATION TO DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY INJECTOR SYSTEM
Note
•  If the diesel particulate filter has been replaced and the diesel particulate filter data has been reset in the past, or the PCM has been replaced, use the traveled distance from the time of the related servicing until the time the vehicle was brought in.
•  Perform the following procedure:
1.  Display the following PID diesel particulate filter_REG_CNT using the M-MDS.
2.  Divide the current traveled distance (odometer display) by the value of PID diesel particulate filter_REG_CNT and verify the average value of the diesel particulate filter regeneration interval.
•  Average value of the diesel particulate filter regeneration interval equals traveled distance divided by value of PID diesel particulate filter_REG_CNT
•  Is the average value of the diesel particulate filter regeneration interval 140 km or more?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the fuel injector, then go to Step 7.
4
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY TURBOCHARGER
•  Switch the ignition OFF.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine on).
•  Display PID VGTURB_ACT and simulation item VGTURB_DSD using the M-MDS.
•  Operate the variable turbine geometry turbocharger actuator using the simulation item VGTURB_DSD.
•  Does PID VGTURB_ACT change according to the simulation operation.
Yes
Go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT VARIABLE TURBINE GEOMETRY TURBOCHARGER ACTUATOR
•  Inspect the variable turbine geometry turbocharger actuator.
•  Is the variable turbine geometry turbocharger actuator normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the variable turbine geometry turbocharger actuator, then go to the next step.
6
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY TURBOCHARGER
•  Switch the ignition OFF.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine on).
•  Display PID VGTURB_ACT and simulation item VGTURB_DSD using the M-MDS.
•  Operate the turbocharger with variable geometry using the simulation item VGTURB_DSD.
•  Does PID VGTURB_ACT change according to the simulation operation.
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, then go to the next step.
7
INSPECT MAP SENSOR
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Is the MAP sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the MAP sensor, then go to the next step.
8
INSPECT EXHAUST GAS PRESSURE SENSOR
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Inspect exhaust gas pressure sensor No.1.
•  Is exhaust gas pressure sensor No.1 normal?
Yes
Replace the variable turbine geometry turbocharger actuator, then go to the next step.
No
Replace exhaust gas pressure sensor No.1, then go to the next step.
9
PERFORM COMPULSORY diesel particulate filter REGENERATION AND BURN OUT ENGINE OIL IN diesel particulate filter
•  Perform compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration.
Note
•  When a DTC is stored, compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration may be restricted by the PCM control.
―  When a high quantity of soot has accumulated in the diesel particulate filter and the PCM has stored DTC P242F:00, compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration cannot be implemented.
•  Perform applicable DTC troubleshooting then perform compulsory diesel particulate filter regeneration.
Go to the next step.

Replace the engine oil.
Implement the engine oil data reset procedure.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
11
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Reconnect all disconnected connectors and hoses.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC. Clear the DTC.
•  Start the engine and drive the vehicle under the freeze frame data/snapshot data condition.
Warning
•  To prevent an accident, work with another person when the vehicle is being driven (one person drives vehicle, other person operates M-MDS).
•  Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location where safety can be assured.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
