Caution
•  Performing the following procedures could cause an open circuit in the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness if it is pulled by mistake. Before servicing, disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor and set it aside so that the wiring harness will not be pulled by mistake.
Note
•  Place alignment marks before removing the rear upper arm.
•  When installing, align the alignment marks of the rear crossmember and rear upper arm, and install.
•  Before installing the rear crossmember to the vehicle, completely tighten the rear upper arm inner bolts.

1.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2.  Release the electric parking brake.

3.  Switch the ignition off.

4.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.  Disconnect the wiring harness clip and the wiring harness connector from the rear crossmember.

7.  Set the rear differential breather hose aside.

8.  Disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness and the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector, and set them aside so that they do not interfere with the servicing. (See REAR ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [4WD].)

9.  Remove the following parts. (See FLOOR UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(1)  Floor under cover No.2
(2)  Floor under cover No.1

10.  Remove the fasteners in the order shown in the figure.

11.  Remove the insulator.

12.  Remove the following parts. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5].) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

(1)  Brace bar
(2)  Tunnel member
(3)  Strut bar

13.  Remove the following parts.

(1)  TWC (SKYACTIV-G 2.5) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5].)
(2)  Middle pipe (SKYACTIV-D 2.2) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)
(3)  Propeller shaft (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
(4)  Rear coil spring (See REAR COIL SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

14.  Remove in the order shown in the figure.

15.  Install in the reverse order of removal. (See Suspension Links Installation Note.)

16.  Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. (See REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT.)

Rear Upper Arm Removal Note

1.  Jack up the vehicle to the position allowing the rear lower arm installation bolts to be removed.

2.  Place alignment marks on the rear crossmember and rear upper arm.

3.  Support the rear crossmember component with a jack and remove the rear crossmember installation nuts.

4.  Using a jack, lower the rear crossmember component slowly until the rear upper arm inner installation bolts can be removed.

5.  Remove the rear upper arm.


Rear Upper Arm Bushing Removal Note

1.  Place alignment marks on the rear upper arm as shown in the figure.

2.  Set the SST (49 U034 204) as shown in the figure and remove the rear upper arm bushing.

Suspension Links Installation Note

1.  When installing the joint sections with rubber bushings, perform the following steps.

(1)  Temporarily tighten the bolts and nuts with the vehicle lifted up.
(2)  Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the bolts and nuts to the specified torque.


Rear Upper Arm Bushing Installation Note

1.  Place an alignment mark on the new bushing as shown in the figure.

H1: 7.0±0.6 mm {0.28±0.02 in}

2.  Align the projections of a new rear upper arm bushing with the alignment marks placed during removal.

3.  Press fit a rear upper arm bushing using the SST until the alignment marks placed in Step 1 are no longer visible.

4.  Set the SST (49 U034 204) as shown in the figure and install the rear upper arm bushing.

Note
•  Before press-fitting a rear upper arm bushing, verify the height of the bushing because the bushing height of the inner and outer sides differs.

H3: 44.5 mm {1.75 in}

5.  After installing the rear upper arm bushing, verify that it is installed to the position shown in the figure.

H4: 23.0±0.6 mm {0.906±0.02 in}


Rear Upper Arm Installation Note

Note
•  If the rear upper arm is replaced, place alignment marks on the new part in the same position as the removed part.

1.  Align the alignment marks and tighten the rear upper arm inner bolt to the specified torque.

Tightening torque
127—154 N·m {13—15 kgf·m, 94—113 ft·lbf}

2.  Lift up the rear crossmember component using a jack and install the rear crossmember installation nuts.

Tightening torque
91—111 N·m {9.3—11 kgf·m, 68—81 ft·lbf}


Rear Upper Arm Outer Bolt Installation Note

1.  Install the rear upper arm outer bolts from the front of the vehicle.
