REAR ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [4WD]

Caution

• Do not allow a magnetized tool such as a magnetized screwdriver to come into contact with the ABS sensor rotor. If the ABS sensor rotor becomes magnetized, it will be unable to read the ABS wheel-speed sensor waveform correctly resulting in an ABS system malfunction to be determined and the inability to perform ABS control. If a magnetized object comes into contact with the ABS sensor rotor, it will be necessary to newly replace the rear drive shaft (ABS sensor rotor).

1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

2. Release the electric parking brake.

3. Switch the ignition off.

4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5. Remove the following parts.

(1) Rear scuff plate (See REAR SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(2) Trunk board (See TRUNK BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3) Trunk side pocket (See TRUNK SIDE POCKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4) Trunk end trim (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5) Bass box (With Bose^®) (See BASS-BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(6) Third-row seat cushion (See THIRD-ROW SEAT CUSHION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(7) Third-row seat back component (See THIRD-ROW SEAT BACK COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(8) Trunk side trim (See TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6. Disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.

7. Press the grommet tabs in the directions of arrows (1) shown in the figure and detach them from the vehicle body.

8. Press the grommet in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and press out the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor toward the outside of the vehicle.

9. Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

10. Remove in the order shown in the figure.

11. Install in the reverse order of removal.

12. After installation, verify that the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor wiring harness is not twisted.

1. Remove the cap nut shown in the figure.

2. Partially peel back the rear mudguard and remove the grommet.
