Warning
<<High voltage>>
•  Always observe the following thoroughly to ensure safety when inspecting or removing/installing parts in the motor compartment. Otherwise, the high voltage circuit may operate on the vehicle regardless of whether or not the main power is switched OFF or ON (READY off or on). If this occurs, it could cause electrical shock and result in serious injury or, in the worst case, death.
―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops
―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF
―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging
―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)
―  Cancel climate control timer
―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation
Warning
•  The cooling fan may suddenly start operating regardless of the main power switch position. Keep hands and tools away from the cooling fan even if the cooling fan is not operating to prevent injury, or damage to the cooling fan. When servicing the cooling fan or parts near the cooling fan, ensure the following.
―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging
―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops
―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF
―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)
―  Cancel climate control timer
―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation

Determination Procedure

Caution
•  When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.
•  When inspecting the connector, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester probe into the terminal.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) AND CONNECTOR C-39
•  Switch the main power OFF.
•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector C-39.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 3.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the connector 3 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 3X and 3W.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-39 and body control module (BCM) because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the body control module (BCM) because there is a short to ground in the body control module (BCM).

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN EPS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-39
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between EPS control module terminal 2C and body ground
―  Between EPS control module terminal 2A and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 5.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN EPS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the EPS control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between EPS control module terminal 2C (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between EPS control module terminal 2A (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the EPS control module and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the EPS control module because there is a short to ground in the EPS control module.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN SELECTOR LEVER AND CONNECTOR C-39
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between selector lever terminal D and body ground
―  Between selector lever terminal B and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN SELECTOR LEVER FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the selector lever connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between selector lever terminal D (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between selector lever terminal B (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the selector lever and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the selector lever because there is a short to ground in the selector lever.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-38 AND CONNECTOR C-39
•  Disconnect the connector C-38.
•  Connect the connector C-39
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-38 and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE / ADAPTIVE LED HEADLIGHTS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-38
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module terminal E and body ground
―  Between auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module terminal H and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE / ADAPTIVE LED HEADLIGHTS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module terminal E (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module terminal H (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module and connector C-38 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module because there is a short to ground in the auto leveling control module / adaptive LED headlights control module.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-38 AND CONNECTOR C-13
•  Disconnect the connector C-13.
•  Connect the connector C-38.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-38 and connector C-13 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-13 AND CONNECTOR C-21
•  Connect the connector C-13.
•  Disconnect the connector C-21.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-13 and connector C-21 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN SAS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-21
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3A and body ground
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3D and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 16.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-21 AND CONNECTORS C-71, C-72
•  Disconnect the connectors C-71, C-72.
•  Connect the connector C-21.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connectors C-71, C-72 and connector C-21 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN SAS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTORS C-71, C-72
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3A and body ground
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3D and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connectors C-71, C-72 and connector C-21 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN SAS CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the SAS control module connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3A (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between SAS control module terminal 3D (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the SAS control module and connectors C-71, C-72 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the SAS control module because there is a short to ground in the SAS control module.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-21 AND CONNECTOR C-07
•  Disconnect the connector C-07.
•  Connect the connector C-21.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-21 and connector C-07 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-34 AND CONNECTOR C-07
•  Disconnect the connector C-34.
•  Connect the connector C-07.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3X and body ground
―  Between body control module (BCM) terminal 3W and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-34 and connector C-07 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT AND CONNECTOR C-34
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between electronically controlled brake unit terminal 1AM and body ground
―  Between electronically controlled brake unit terminal 1AO and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 20.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the electronically controlled brake unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between electronically controlled brake unit terminal 1AM (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between electronically controlled brake unit terminal 1AO (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the electronically controlled brake unit and connector C-34 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the electronically controlled brake unit because there is a short to ground in the electronically controlled brake unit.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN PARKING LOCK ACTUATOR CONNETCTOR C-34 AND CONNECTOR C-09
•  Disconnect the connector C-09.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal E and body ground
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal F and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 22.

INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-34, CONNECTOR C-02 AND CONNECTOR C-09
•  Disconnect the connector C-02.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal E and body ground
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal F and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the connector C-02 and connector C-34 and connector C-09 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN PARKING LOCK ACTUATOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the parking lock actuator connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal E (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between parking lock actuator terminal F (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the parking lock actuator and connector C-02 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the parking lock actuator because there is a short to ground in the parking lock actuator.

INSPECT CAN LINE IN PCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Disconnect the PCM connector.
•  Inspect for continuity at the following terminals:
―  Between PCM terminal AK (wiring harness side) and body ground
―  Between PCM terminal AL (wiring harness side) and body ground
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the PCM and connector C-09 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No
Replace the PCM because there is a short to ground in the PCM.
