•  Always observe the following thoroughly to ensure safety when inspecting or removing/installing parts in the motor compartment. Otherwise, the high voltage circuit may operate on the vehicle regardless of whether or not the main power is switched OFF or ON (READY off or on). If this occurs, it could cause electrical shock and result in serious injury or, in the worst case, death.

―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops

―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF

―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging

―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)

―  Cancel climate control timer

―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation

•  The cooling fan may suddenly start operating regardless of the main power switch position. Keep hands and tools away from the cooling fan even if the cooling fan is not operating to prevent injury, or damage to the cooling fan. When servicing the cooling fan or parts near the cooling fan, ensure the following.

―  Do not perform normal charging or quick charging

―  Do not select high voltage battery cooling on center display after EV system stops

―  Do not open/close doors frequently with main power switched OFF

―  Switch to connected vehicle maintenance mode (MyMazda App connected vehicle)

―  Cancel climate control timer

―  Operate center display and turn off battery heater operation

Determination Procedure

Caution

•  When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.

•  When inspecting the connector, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester probe into the terminal.

•  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal before performing any work that requires handling of connectors.

Step	Inspection		Action
1	INSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector 2 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F (wiring harness side). •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F (wiring harness side) the same?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Replace the body control module (BCM) because there is a short between circuits in the body control module (BCM). (See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
2	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-34 AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-34. •  Connect the connector 2 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Go to Step 5.
3	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN PARKING LOCK ACTUATOR AND CONNECTOR C-01 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-01. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-01 and connector C-34, body control module (BCM) because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT PARKING LOCK ACTUATOR FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the parking lock actuator connector. •  Inspect for continuity between parking lock actuator terminals 1D and 1F (wiring harness side). •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between the parking lock actuator and connector C-01 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Replace the parking lock actuator because there is a short between circuits in the parking lock actuator. (See PARKING LOCK ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [A71M].)
5	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT AND CONNECTOR C-34 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Inspect for continuity between electronically controlled brake unit terminals 1D and 1F. •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Go to Step 7.
6	INSPECT ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Disconnect the electronically controlled brake unit connector. •  Inspect for continuity between electronically controlled brake unit terminals 1D and 1F (wiring harness side). •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between the electronically controlled brake unit and connector C-34 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Replace the electronically controlled brake unit because there is a short between circuits in the electronically controlled brake unit. (See ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L.H.D.].)
7	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-34 AND CONNECTOR C-04 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Disconnect the connector C-04. •  Connect the connector C-34. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-34 and connector C-04 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
8	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-04 AND CONNECTOR C-39 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-39. •  Connect the connector C-04. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-04 and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
9	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN SELECTOR LEVER AND CONNECTOR C-39 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Inspect for continuity between selector lever terminals H and F. •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Go to Step 11.
10	INSPECT SELECTOR LEVER FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Disconnect the selector lever connector. •  Inspect for continuity between selector lever terminals H and F (wiring harness side). •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between the selector lever and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Replace the selector lever because there is a short between circuits in the selector lever. (See SELECTOR LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [A71M].)
11	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-39 AND CONNECTOR C-18 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Disconnect the connector C-18. •  Connect the connector C-39. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-18 and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
12	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-48 AND CONNECTOR C-18 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-48. •  Connect the connector C-18. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-48 and connector C-18 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
13	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-48 AND PCM FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Measure the voltage at PCM terminals AW and AX. •  Is the voltage at PCM terminals AW and AX the same?	Yes	Go to Step 17.
		No	Go to the next step.
14	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-48 AND CONNECTOR C-64 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-64. •  Connect the connector C-48. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-48 and connector C-64 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
15	INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-64 AND CONNECTOR C-66 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the connector C-66. •  Connect the connector C-64. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-66 and connector C-64 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Go to the next step.
16	INSPECT DRIVE MOTOR CONTROL MODULE FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS Warning <<High voltage>> •  Wear insulating gloves when working on a high voltage system. •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the drive motor control module connector. •  Inspect for continuity between drive motor control module terminals 3I and 3J (wiring harness side). •  Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between drive motor control module and connector C-66 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Replace the drive motor control module because there is a short between circuits in the drive motor control module. (See INVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
17	INSPECT PCM FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS •  Switch the main power OFF. •  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Disconnect the PCM connector. •  Connect the connector C-48. •  Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.) •  Switch the main power ON (READY off). •  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F. •  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2H and 2F the same?	Yes	Repair or replace the wiring harness between the PCM and connector C-48 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
		No	Replace the PCM because there is a short between circuits in the PCM. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
