DTC P2129:00

Accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor No.2 circuit intermittent

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the accelerator pedal depression amount based on the APP sensor No.2 signal using CAN via the instrument cluster. If the PCM detects that the APP sensor No.2 signal less than 0.2 V or more than 4.8 V, the PCM determines that the APP sensor No.2 circuit malfunction.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Communication error between instrument cluster and PCM
•  APP sensor connector or terminals malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  APP sensor terminal A—instrument cluster terminal 1F
―  APP sensor terminal B—instrument cluster terminal 1D
•  Instrument cluster connector or terminals malfunction
•  APP sensor No.2 signal circuit and ground circuit are shorted to each other
•  APP sensor No.2 power supply circuit and signal circuit are shorted to each other
•  Short to power supply in wiring harness between APP sensor terminal B and instrument cluster terminal 1D
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  APP sensor terminal A—instrument cluster terminal 1F
―  APP sensor terminal B—instrument cluster terminal 1D
―  APP sensor terminal C—instrument cluster terminal 1G
•  APP sensor No.2 malfunction
•  Instrument cluster malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY STORED CAN COMMUNICATION DTC IN PCM AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Retrieve the PCM and instrument cluster DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Is the CAN communication DTC present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT APP SENSOR CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the APP sensor connector.
•  Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT APP SENSOR NO.2 CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  APP sensor connector is disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  APP sensor terminal A
―  APP sensor terminal B
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
If the short to ground circuit could be detected:
•  Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground.
If the short to ground circuit could not be detected:
•  Replace the instrument cluster (short to ground in the instrument cluster internal circuit).
Go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
•  Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, corrosion).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector and/or terminals, then go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT APP SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT AND GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO EACH OTHER
•  APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between APP sensor terminals B and C (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to each other, then go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
8
INSPECT APP SENSOR NO.2 POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT AND SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO EACH OTHER
•  APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Inspect for continuity between APP sensor terminals A and B (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to each other, then go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
9
INSPECT APP SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
•  APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Switch the ignition to ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at the APP sensor terminal B (wiring harness-side).
•  Is there any voltage?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to power supply, then go to Step 12.
No
Go to the next step.
10
INSPECT APP SENSOR NO.2 CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  APP sensor and instrument cluster connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  APP sensor terminal A—instrument cluster terminal 1F
―  APP sensor terminal B—instrument cluster terminal 1D
―  APP sensor terminal C—instrument cluster terminal 1G
•  Is there continuity?
