Brake system warning light illuminates

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  ABS HU/CM malfunction
•  DSC HU/CM malfunction
•  Brake fluid level sensor malfunction
•  Parking brake switch malfunction
•  Instrument cluster malfunction
•  Connector or pin malfunction
•  Short circuit in wiring harness between CAN-L, CAN-H and ground
•  Open circuit in CAN wiring harness (CAN-L, CAN-H)
•  CAN wiring harness (CAN-L, CAN-H) short each other
•  Malfunction in brake switch input to PCM (MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5)(Without malfunction warning light)

•  Start the engine.
•  Release the parking brake.
•  Does the brake system warning light turn off?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed. (The system is normal.)
No
Go to the next step.

•  Does the brake fluid need replenishment?
Yes
Add brake fluid.
No
MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5 (With malfunction warning light)
Go to step 4.
MZR 1.3, MZR 1.5 (Without malfunction warning light)
Go to the next step.
MZ-CD 1.6
Go to step 4.

•  Reactive the DTC of PCM using M-MDS.
•  Is the DTC P0571:00 or P0703:00 detected?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC troubleshooting procedure.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Inspect the brake fluid level sensor, parking brake switch or connectors.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Start the engine.
•  Verify that the warning and indicator lights condition.
•  Do two or more lights illuminate at the same time?
Yes
Go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Reactive the DTC of ABS CM or DSC CM using M-MDS.
•  Is the DTC detected?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC troubleshooting procedure.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Turn off the brake system warning light using M-MDS instrument cluster according to active command modes.
•  Does the brake system warning light turn off active command modes?
Yes
Verify that the ABS HU/CM or DSC HU/CM connector is connected securely.
If the ABS HU/CM or DSC HU/CM connector is poor connection:
Connect the ABS CM or DSC CM connector securely.
If malfunction is in the ABS HU/CM or DSC HU/CM side connector:
Replace the ABS HU/CM or DSC HU/CM.
If malfunction is in vehicle side connector:
Repair or replace malfunctioning part.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.

•  Reactive the DTC of instrument cluster using M-MDS.
•  Is the DTC detected?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC troubleshooting procedure.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Measure the resistance between the DLC-2 terminals F and E.
•  Is the resistance below 60 ohms?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 11.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Inspect the DLC-2 terminals F and E for short to power supply or ground.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Inspect the wiring harness and CAN system-related module.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.

•  Turn the ignition switch off.
•  Inspect the instrument cluster connector terminals for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
•  Are the terminals normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the terminal.

•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster connector terminals 2B and 2D.
•  Is the resistance 114—126 ohms?
Yes
Inspect the wiring harness and CAN system-related module.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.
